Student Responsibility

Students with disabilities should contact the ADAPTS Office, as it is the only designated campus agency responsible for classroom accommodations. Students with disabilities are expected to self-identify.

Registration Process:

  1. Send documentation of your diability to the ADAPTS office now; we will start your file. (Confidentiality is maintained.)

  2. Call ahead to make an appointment in our office for an orientation to using ADAPTS and to evaluate your needs and what accommodations will be provided to meet those needs

If classroom accommodations are necessary, you will be given an accommodation letter at the beginning of every semester. This letter should be used to assist you in discussing your accommodations with your instructors early in the semester. Students are responsible for requesting accommodations in a timely manner so instructors may plan for the accommodations. The only valid documentation a student needs to provide to the professor is the ADAPTS accommodation letter. Professors may not ask the student for any more documentation or information regarding their disability. Conversely, professors need only provide accommodations to students providing the ADAPTS accommodation letter.

Students with disabilities must maintain the same level of academic integrity and responsibility as students without disabilities. This includes achieving the same academic standards, attending class, and providing timely notification of individual needs. A failure to abide by the student conduct code and rules of the ADAPTS Office will result in a loss of services.

Responsibilities of the ADAPTS Student

  1. Accommodations are based on the documentation of the disability provided to the ADAPTS coordinator.

  2. The ADAPTS coordinator and affiliated staff members are available to assist students in solving disability related problems.

  3. Students should identify themselves to their instructors and make an appointment to present their accommodation letter and discuss their testing and/or other accommodations at the beginning of each semester.

  4. Students desiring special testing arrangements (differing from other class members) due to their disability should make those arrangements at the beginning of the term with their instructor and with the ADAPTS coordinator if using the ADAPTS Office for proctoring.
